Wax Doll is a documentation of the funeral of the artist’s grandmother.
Inspired by family photo albums, where weddings, births, birthdays, and christenings are usually included, Pedro Filipe Nunes decided that this last farewell shouldn’t be lost to time.
The images were taken so that the family could analyze what happened to them later, to help in the grieving process, by focusing on images that would show affection and fraternity in a time of grief.
The project’s name comes from an interjection made by the artist’s mother, who, upon seeing the body, said “It doesn’t even look like grandma, it looks like a wax doll”.
