Phantoms
Phantoms is a continuation of the series Someone, shifting the focus from the physical to the digital collective. Over a 24-hour period, Pedro Filipe Nunes systematically captured every face encountered online, photographing them directly through a screen.
This process yielded 255 images—of friends and, predominantly, strangers—where the digital interface acts as both medium and barrier. The screen’s inherent distortions obscure and fragment the subjects, rendering them as spectral presences rather than identifiable individuals.
The final images were printed and arranged in grids of three, echoing the visual language of social media feeds such as Instagram and TikTok. Through this structure, Phantoms reflects on the saturation, anonymity, and ephemerality of identity in contemporary digital spaces.
